As many of you will know we ran these awards virtually last February, during Lockdown 2, where hundreds of young people were nominated by parents, teachers, community groups and friends; this was an amazing event where we got to showcase 30 amazing acts of kindness shown by our local young people to others, from sleeping out to raise money for the homeless to a big sister creating a sensory room at home for her younger brother who has Autism, or a young girl who spent her pocket money creating Pamper Hampers for some of her neighbours who were frontline workers or the young man who shared his full packed lunch with his best friend who had forgotten his lunch and was hungry…

Kindness can be perceived as a throwaway word, however anyone who has ever been on the receiving end of “a selfless act of kindness” will remember just how amazing it made you feel – We want to celebrate the kindness shown by the next generation, so to do this our Awards Ceremony will focus completely on them, with local celebrities and influencers hosting and presenting awards, entertainment and a live band etc… we can’t wait to read all the nominations for this year’s Live event.

We are known for being highly innovative and creative through our primary intervention, suicide prevention, mental health programme called Uberheroes®, we have delivered this programme to over 22,000 children and young people across Northern Ireland.

These superhero style comics tell the real stories of local young people who have faced and overcame poor mental health, their story is created into one of our Uberheroes® comics and delivered through interactive workshops to help equip children and young people with early intervention tools and techniques and to have the time to discuss mental health issues. To learn how to problem solve and understand resilient thinking and the importance of making intelligent choices; helping them to openly discuss the issues they’re facing, helping them and their peers. Prevention is always better than cure!

Stan Lee – Marvel, recognised this when he said “Comics are well placed to tackle social issues because a story without a message is like a man without a soul”.
