Ref: Supporting students of Key Workers in Years 8, 9 and 10

Written by

Drumragh Integrated College is eager to support our key workers as they endeavour to protect us. We have made the decision to open and we will remain open when we are required to provide support. If you are an identified key worker (refer below) and you require us to supervise your son or daughter please contact the school by 2.00pm at the latest, on the day before your son or daughter is due. Please identify clearly which category of Key Worker/s enables your son/ daughter to avail of this provision.

We can be contacted in the first instance via a text only to 078589928215 or through our info account (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).

Before contacting the college, please pay particular attention to the following points. Schools will not be able to operate a ‘normal’ teaching day. We are already operating with a significant reduction in staffing and this is likely to continue over time. Therefore, this facility will be for study supervision only.

Points to consider:

·       Supervision will be facilitated for students in Yr8, 9 and 10 only as directed by the Minister for Education, NI

·       A list of Key Workers issued by the Department of Education is listed below. Only children in Years 8, 9 and 10, with both parents working as Key Workers, and both parents out at work at the same time, should consider attending college. In single parent families, the individual parent must be a Key Worker.

·     Where possible, alternative child care arrangements should be sought before deciding to send your child to college. For example, with other family members, friends etc. Please try to use the provision in the college as a last resort. This is to try to limit social interaction and to protect all concerned in the college in line with recent social distancing guidelines.

·       Normal opening and closing times will apply, 9am- 3.05pm only.

·       Catering provision will be available to purchase.  We await clarity on the Free School Meal Entitlement.

·       Please be aware no school transport will be available.

·       Students attending will be required to wear their school uniform. Please be advised that staff will be performing supervision duties rather than teaching.  Teachers have been directed by the Minister to provide online/ remote learning for pupils.

·       This facility is NOT available for students in Years 11, 12, 13 and 14.

We would ask that you pay attention and adhere to the points outlined above before deciding to send your child to the college. Obviously it goes without saying, if your ONLY option is to send your child to the college, we will endeavour to look after them in these challenging circumstances.

List of Key workers as outlined on documentation issued to schools on 19th March 2020

·       Health and Social Care. This includes doctors, nurses, midwives, paramedics, social workers, home carers and staff required to maintain our health and social care sector
