Opening Ceremony and 15th Year Anniversary Celebrations

Friday 5th of March 2010 saw the highly anticipated Opening Ceremony of our fantastic new school. Over 300 invited guests turned out at this exciting event, including the Founding Principal Dr Kathleen Hinds, lady Salisbury, parents, guests and  pupils past and present.  The unveiling of the plaque by our guest speaker Paul Clark marked a momentous occasion followed by the planting of a tree, symbolising the progress that has been made in the past 15 years and the bright future that Drumragh College it is sure to have.

At 9.30am, arriving guests were greeted by staff members and invited to avail of refreshments before being escorted in to Great Hall for the Ceremony.  Guests were treated to a flawless performance by the school choir, who worked tirelessly with Miss Morris and Miss Donnelly in preparation for this event.

Chairperson of the Board of Governors, Ian Booth, told those present that the official opening was a ‘special day’ in the history of the school.  “When the school first opened, pupils and parents took a historical step in 1995 into a building not at all like this one,” he said, standing in the new school’s fantastic assembly hall.

Our current principal, Mr Frith, told those present that he felt ‘surprisingly emotional’ and stated that he felt “an immense sense of pride in members of this school.”  He continued by saying: “This building is fabulous and we are very grateful for what we have been given and we are going to make good use of it.  Of course school is not about the building, but the people, but this building really helpsand we are all moving forward together.”

Guests at the ceremony listened to speeches by Dr Kathleen Hinds, the founding principal of Drumragh and two past year pupils who had returned to relate their fond memories of the college.  Finally, guests were then treated to a dance performance by four of our very talented dancers before being seated in the sports hall for an exquisite brunch.

The ceremony ended on a high and cheerful note as the college auctioned of their beautiful flower arrangement in which the proceeds went to out fundraising campaign for Ethiopia.

The day was a complete success and a credit to all of those involved, including Mrs Melley and the organising committee for all their hard work a effort in organising the event.
