Sixth Form

Drumragh Integrated College offers a diverse range of subjects at Post-16, some of which are not offered in any other local school. In addition to a high proportion of our own students choosing to access AS and A2 level courses, we also have a significant number of students from other local schools who choose to continue their education here after GCSE. Our ability to offer a range and quality of opportunity, as well as the dedication and expertise of our staff, we consider to be among our strongest assets. The Sixth Form has proven very popular and successful in recent years.

This year we offered the following AS and A2 level courses:

  • Agriculture
  • Art
  • Biology
  • Business Studies
  • Chemistry
  • Computer Gaming
  • Design and Technology
  • Electronic Engineering
  • English Literature
  • French
  • Geography
  • Government & Politics
  • Health and Social Care
  • History
  • Home Economics
  • Hospitality
  • ICT
  • Mathematics
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Moving Image
  • Music
  • Physics
  • Psychology
  • Religious Education
  • Spanish
  • Sport
  • Technology & Design
  • Theatre Studies
  • Travel & Tourism

Our view is that students of this age require an approach which takes account of their maturity, but which at the same time recognises the need for support in this transitional and highly demanding phase of their education. There is a strong emphasis on allowing students the independence they expect whilst providing strong, caring pastoral support and close monitoring of academic progress. We aim to equip our students with the tools they require to become excellent learners; self-motivation, self-direction and independence are central to the approach we encourage our Sixth Form students to adopt. Facilities to complement this include dedicated study periods in which students work independently, a Sixth Form study room and a computer suite.

There is a growing shift in the post-16 education system, in Northern Ireland, that seeks to provide young people with as many academic options as possible at advanced level. At Drumragh Integrated College we have started to forge relationships with other local course providers to ensure that if we as an institution cannot provide a particular course choice, we will seek to collaborate with others to meet the requirements of the individual. This involves travelling to other provider sites during the course of the week for one course and has already proven enormously successful for a number of students.

Sixth Form Leadership:

To reflect their growing impact on school development, every year two students are selected from Year 14 to represent the college as Head Boy and Head Girl. Up to 16 other students are given the opportunity to assume the role of Senior Prefect. These Prefects are given many responsibilities inside and outside of the college, including being the link between the Student Council and college staff.

A separate booklet for prospective Sixth Form students is available with more detailed information on our Sixth Form provision, including an outline of all courses running at Drumragh Integrated College.
